කඩිගමුව ටැම්පිට විහාරය ලෙස ප්‍රසිද්ධ මෙම විහාරස්ථානයේ සම්පූර්ණ නාමය "ශ්‍රී නාගවනාරාම රාජමහා විහාරය" වේ. මෙය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සබරගමුව පළාතේ, කෑගල්ල දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ, රඹුක්කන ප්‍රදේශයට ආසන්න කඩිගමුව ගම්මානයේ පිහිටි ඉතා වටිනා පුරාවිද්‍යාත්මක හා ආගමික විහාරස්ථානයකි.

ටැම්පිට විහාරයක් කියන්නේ මොකද්ද?

ටැම්පිට විහාරය කියන්නේ, ගල් කුළු මත හෝ ගල් තට්ටු මත ඉදි කරන ලද විහාර ගෘහයකි.

මෙවැනි විහාර ගෘහ භූමියෙන් ඉහළට උස් කර ලී, මැටි (wattle & daub) සහ උළු වහල භාවිතා කර තෙතමනයෙන් හා කෘමි හානි වලින් ආරක්ෂා වන ලෙස

ඉදිකර තිබීම විශේෂ ලක්ෂණයකි.

මෙම ගෘහ නිර්මාණ ශෛලිය විශේෂයෙන් මහනුවර යුගයේ (16–18 සියවස්) බොහෝ ජනප්‍රිය විය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ටැම්පිට විහාර බොහෝ තිබුණත් එකම විහාර භූමියක ටැම්පිට විහාර ගෙයි දෙකක් තිබීම අතිශය දුර්ලභ දෙයකි.

විහාරයේ ඉතිහාසය

මෙම විහාර භූමියේ ආරම්භය ඉතා පැරණි යුගයක් දක්වා දිව යන බව ජනප්‍රවාද හා පුරාවිද්‍යා සාධක මගින් පෙන්වයි. සමහර මතයන් අනුව මෙහි මුල් ආරම්භය අනුරාධපුර යුගය දක්වා පැතිර යයි.

මහනුවර යුගයේ සංවර්ධනය

අද අපට දැකගත හැකි පහළ ටැම්පිට විහාරය

බොහෝ විට 15–16 වන සියවස් කාලයේ (මහනුවර යුගයේ ආරම්භක අවධිය) ඉදිකර ඇති බව විශ්වාස කෙරේ.

පසුව විහාරය විවිධ භික්ෂූන් වහන්සේලා හා දායකයන් විසින් ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කර ඇත.

ඉහළ ටැම්පිට විහාරය විහාරය 18–19 වන සියවස ආසන්න කාලයකදී ගම්වාසී දායකයන්ගේ සහායෙන්

ඉදිකර ඇති බවට සාධක පවතී.

Kadigamuwa Tampita Viharaya

The full name of this temple, known as Kadigamuwa Tampita Viharaya, is "Sri Nagavanarama Rajamaha Viharaya". This is a very valuable archaeological and religious temple located in Kadigamuwa village, near Rambukkana, in the Kegalle District, Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka.

What is a Tampita Viharaya?

A Tampita Viharaya is a temple house built on stone pillars or stone floors.

A special feature of such temple houses is that they are raised above the ground and have a roof made of wood, clay (wattle & daub) and tiles to protect them from production and insect damage.

This architecture was especially popular during the Kandyan period (16–18 AD).

Speciality of Kadigamuwa Vihara

Although there are many Tampita Viharas in Sri Lanka, it is extremely rare to have a Tampita Vihara in the same temple area.

History of the Vihara

Popular legends and archaeological evidence show that the beginning of this temple site dates back to a very ancient era. According to some memories, the original beginning extends to the Anuradhapura era.

Development of the Kandy era

The Lower Tampita Vihara that we can see today is believed to have its beginning in the 15th-16th century (the beginning of the Kandy era).

Later, the area was opened by various monks and donors.

There are evidences that the Upper Tampita Viharaya was established with the help of villagers around the 18th–19th century.
